Reviews Can Make You or Break You

Google My Business Reviews are Golden

June 10, 2021

Reviews Are the Most Important Things that You Can Do to Improve Your Online Presence.

One of the most common searches for local businesses is “_______ near me”. This results in a Google search page displaying several Google My Business (GMB) listings, each of which contains reviews and star ratings.

In other searches customers will find your company name and to find out more about you, they will type your company name back in Google. This time ONLY your GMB will show up (along with other info). If your star rating is too low, they’ll move on and search again for another supplier.

  • 85% of consumers do online research before purchasing
  • 88% of consumers trust online reviews as much as a personal recommendation
  • Consumers read around 10 reviews before making purchase decisions

How to Request a Review from Your Customers:

First, call each customer and ask them about their experience with your service. If good, ask if they will give you a excellent review on GMB. Then tell them that you’ll be sending them a request for a review (verify if they got it before hanging up).

Your request to your customer should look like this:

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Bob,

Thank you for choosing ABC Company. We greatly appreciate your business. Please use the link below to write us a short 5 star review on Google about your experience.

(we will provide you with this link)

Thank you again for your business and your time.

Sincerely,

Your Name

Do’s & Dont's of getting a 5 star review:

  • Do ONLY request reviews from customers who are very satisfied
  • Do call first, then send each customer a custom request for a review
  • Do stress that you would like them to give you a 5 star review
  • Do keep reviews coming in each and every month
  • Do ALWAYS timely respond to each review, good or bad
  • Don’t offer any incentives for reviews – this violates Google’s policy
  • Don’t bulk out requests for reviews – you’re not what what you'll get

Don’t be surprised that only about ½ of the requests that you make are fulfilled. Like you, your customers are very busy and tend to put this aside after you call and forget to follow-up. What’s more important is that reviews are coming in each and every month. This shows Google that your GMB is active and this causes your listing to show up more often.
