This is a very complex question and the answer depends on your business type and your targeted customer behavior.  Here are some things to consider:

Customers Searching for Products and Services: For most of our service based customers we typically suggest a marketed Google My Business (GMB) listing along with Google Search Ads.  These two together amplify each other and produces a huge amount of cost-effective new customer inquiries.   This is a very effective strategy for new customers who are searching for your services and are ready to purchase

Branding: Facebook, on the other hand can be useful in mining new customers with longer buying cycles or by periodically displaying your business name and offering, “branding” new customers before they search for your products or services.

Demographic Targeting: Facebook has amazing demographic targeting.  Whereas Google's demographic targeting is very limited like age and gender, etc.  Facebook allows very specific targeting, like; moved recently, has children of a certain age, just got a new job, newlyweds, is away from family, education levels… the list goes on and on...  If you have a highly defined audience for your product or service, Facebook may be the solution.

Marketing from lists: Facebook is very good at marketing to exact customers from a list containing their name, city, zip, email and phone.  An example could be a list of your past customers.  Facebook can then expand from this list to a “look alike” audience, which is a very effective way to expand your marketing to new customers with similar interests to your past customers.

Building New Lists: By using a Facebook pixel on your site you can build a list of customers who have visited your site for remarketing as well as expanding this list to “look alike” audiences.
